Indianapolis Racers @ Quebec Nordiques
Both the Racers and Knights gave the fans in attendance at the Colisée de Québec plenty to cheer about as the teams would combine for nine goals. It would take just twenty-seven seconds for the Racers to score first when the defenseman let loose a weak shot from long range that hamstrung Ryan Nash. It was Strandberg’s first goal of the season, with Pat Main picking up the lone assist, his 25th of the season.

The Racers Ramón Candelaria redirected a bad angle shot from Ron Simmons to give the Racers the 2-0 lead. It was goal number 13 on the season for Candelaria with Simmons (11) and David Curtis (15) picking up the assists.

The Nordiques would find themselves on the powerplay after a 2-minute minor to Simon Strandberg for hooking at 8:19. Bob Millsap would capitalize for the Nordiques at 9:32 when he’d pick up a loose puck and break in to put it past Robin Rohrkemper to cut the lead to one, 2-1. The Nordiques would find themselves back on the powerplay in the waning moments of the opening period due to a Gustav Gustafsson interference penalty. Josip Kresinger would give Quebec another special team’s goal with his 4th of the season at 19:38. Tyler Pollock picked up the lone assist, his 13th of the season to tie the game at 2 heading into the first intermission.

Both teams would swap goals in the second period, with Indianapolis scoring first at 15:15 with Pat Main scoring his 9th of the season. Bob Dale (10) and Luke Matyjanka (8) with the assists. 45 seconds later, Aleksey Zhurun would score for Quebec to tie the game again at 3-3. It was goal number 4 on the season, with Dave Loughlin picking up his 5th assist.

Both teams would swap goals again in the third period. Brandon McElroy gave the Racers the 1-goal lead again at 3:17 with his 3rd goal of the season. Simon Strandberg (9) and David Curtis (16) with the assists. But the Quebec Nordiques would tie it again at 6:19 with Kent Hardy scoring his first goal of the season. Dave Loughlin (6) and Bob Brackett (7) with the assists.

It would take until the last minute of the game’s overtime period to conclude. When Aleksey Zhuru scored his 5th goal of the season. Joe Farkas (8) and Davis Zale (13) with the assists.

The 22-year-old Ryan Nash stopped 44 of 48 shots for a .917 save percentage. Robin Rohrkemper was in net for Indianapolis and saw only 20 shots but allowed 5 goals for a .750 save percentage. The 24-year-old moves to 13-6-3 on the season.



New England Whalers @ Indianapolis Racers
The New England Whalers definitely weren’t in the holiday spirit of giving tonight, as they dominate the hometown Indianapolis Racers inside Market Square Arena by a score of 5-1.

Pat Main would misplay a pass with the Racers on the powerplay due to a Ryan Coatta interference penalty. Johnny Donahue would direct a long pass to Daniel Duchek who broke free to score a shorthanded goal to take the 1-0 lead 4:58 into the first period. It was goal number 15 for DuchekJohnny Donahue (13) and Tomás Safa (1) picked up the assists.

It’d stay 1-0 until the midway point of the second period when Roman Böhm picked up a loose puck, a couple of passes later Michal Ruzicka would beat Jan-Anders Mattila to make it 2-0. It was goal 6 on the season for Ruzicka. Tomás Safar (2) and Roman Böhm (14) with the assists. Justin MacAuslan would make it 3-0 at the 11:49 mark with his 4th of the season. Randy Petersen makes it 4-0 with his 7th goal of the season.

The Whalers would add another for good measure at 6:44 of the third period with Johnny Donahue scoring his 11th of the season. Luke Matyjanka would break the shutout at 18:04 with the Racers on the powerplay. It was his 13th goal of the season. Pat Main (26) & Billy Kimball (31) with the assists.

Ladislav Tichacek was in net for New England and stopped 32 of 33 for a .970 save percentage. He moves to 6-8-2 on the season. Jan-Anders Mattila was in net for Indianapolis, stopping 38 of 43 for a .884 save percentage. He moves to 4-8-4 on the season.



Baltimore Blades @ Indianapolis Racers
The Indianapolis Racers gave their home fans an early Christmas present heading into the holiday break as the Racers picked up the 3-0 shutout win. Robin Rohrkemper was awarded 1st star and stopped all 28 shots he faced.

Garland Davenport got the scoring going with the Racers on the powerplay. He’d score his 6th of the season. David Curtis (17) and Billy Kimball (32) picked up the assists. They’d make it 2-0 11:28 into the first period with Woodrow Olson scoring his 5th of the season. Billy Kimball picked up his 33rd assist of the season, with Zander Dennis picking up his 7th assist.

The lone goal in the second period would come via Pat Main scoring his 10th goal of the season to give the Racers the final 3-0 lead. Simon Strandberg (10) and Luke Matyjanka (9) with the assists.

Robin Rohrkemper moves to 14-6-3 on the season. Huxley Johnson was in net for Baltimore and stopped 29 of 32 for a .906 save percentage. Johnson moves to 0-1-0 on the season.
