Pittsburgh Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 10-7, at PNC Park today. Leading the charge for Pittsburgh was first baseman Michael Chavis. He hit 2 home runs while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Reliever Chris Stratton picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Luis Cessa took the loss. Pittsburgh has won 4 consecutive games.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Chavis hit a fastball from Luis Cessa for a 3-run home run. The Pirates, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win. “I just try to bring what I bring to this team,” said Chavis.

The Reds looked to be in control of the game, they’d score 5 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Jonathan India would start the scoring with an RBI double to score TJ Friedl. The next batter up, Ivan Johnson, would hit a 0-0 single to score both Friedl and India. Austin Allen, Tyler Naquin, and Nick Senzel would hit RBI’s.

The Pirates would score 2 in the bottom of the 4th and both single runs in the bottom of the 6th and 7th. The Reds would enter the top of the 9th inning leading 5-4. The Reds would add 2 more insurance runs in the top of the 9th on Ivan Johnson triple and Austin Allen single. Then the bullpen imploded.

Joel Kuhnel would start the inning on the mound for the Reds, after a single and a walk, he’d be pulled for Luis Cessa. Cessa would proceed to walk 2 of the 3 batters faced to walk in 2 runs before a balk scored another. And then Michael Chavis would crush a 3-1 pitch 420 feet to send the 18,625 fans in attendance at PNC Park home happy.

Pirates Earn 7-6 Win Against Reds
The Pittsburgh Pirates faced a tough opponent in Cincinnati pitcher Reiver Sanmartin, but did just enough to pull out the victory at PNC Park by a final score of 7-6. Sanmartin went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Pittsburgh leads the National League Central Division by 2 games.

The Pirates procured the win, in large part because of first baseman Michael Chavis. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. “Put a star next to this win,” Chavis said.

For the 2nd straight game, the Reds were in control of the game heading into the bottom of the 9th inning, as they’d lead 6-2. And then again, the bullpen decided to implode as the Pirates would score 4 run in the bottom of the 9th to tie it before winning it in the 10th.

Anthony Alford would start the scoring for the Pirates with a 2 run shot. Before the Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pirates would score on a wild pitch followed by Bryan Reynolds scoring on a walk drawn by Andrew Knapp. In the bottom of the 10th, Michael Chavis would end the game on a RBI single.

Reds Collect 5-3 Win Over Pirates

Cincinnati used the clutch hitting of Ivan Johnson to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the tenth inning to give the Reds the lead, 5-1. For the game, Johnson had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats. “It’s a mindset,” said Williamson. “Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent.”

The Reds would score 1st in the top of the 3rd inning on an RBI single by Ivan Johnson. It’d stay 1-0 until the bottom of the 8th inning when Roberto Perez would tie it with a solo home run, his 2nd of the season.

It’d stay that way until the bats would open up for both teams in the 10th inning. The Reds would score 4 in the inning thanks in part to an Ivan Johnson 3-run RBI double. Before the Pirates would add 2 more of their own. It started with a Ben Gamel RBI double before Andrew Knapp would hit an RBI double of his own. But thankfully for Reds fans, that’s as close as the Pirates would get as Joel Kuhnel was able to get out of the 10th. “It was a much-needed win,” said Reds skipper David Bell, “it’s been a rough season.
