Daza Leads Rockies to 16-7 Win Over Reds
With center fielder Yonathan Daza leading the charge, the Colorado Rockies defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 16-7, at Colorado Field. Daza was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Cincinnati falls to 7-13.

The Rockies got a big at-bat from right fielder Randal Grichuk. For the game, Grichuk was 1 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Colorado a 2-0 lead. “I felt good up there,” said Daza. “I saw the ball well.”

The Reds would see their 2nd game of the 3 game set rained out and instead make for a doubleheader on Sunday. But it wasn’t all a wash for the Reds as they have claimed RP Danny Coulombe off waivers from Minnesota. Coulombe has appeared in in 8 games this season for Minnesota and pitched 8.1 innings with a ERA of 0.00.

With the claim of Coulombe, the Reds made some roster moves. RF Aristides Aquino, who in 12 plate appearances has 0 hits and 5 strikeouts, was designated for assignment and placed on waivers. They also optioned RP Dauri Moreta to Triple A Louisville. RP Hunter Strickland was also designated for assignment and placed on waivers.

Reds Fall Short, 5-4, at Colorado
Colorado Rockies starter German Marquez was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4. Cincinnati drops to 7-14.

The Rockies got a big at-bat from shortstop Jose Iglesias. For the game, Iglesias went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Colorado a 3-2 lead. “We’ll savor this win,” Iglesias told the Colorado News, “then get ready for the next game.”

It was a back-and-forth game that saw the Reds jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning with a solo home run by Jonathan India, his 2nd of the season. Before the Rockies would tie it in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot of their own, this one by Garrett Hampson, his 3rd of the year. The Reds would grab another in the top of the 2nd with a solo shot by Jake Fraley, his 4th of the season. The Rockies would score 2 more in the bottom of the 2nd and another in the bottom of the 3rd, to end head into the 4th inning up 4-2.

The Reds would add solo runs in both the 6th (solo HR by Tyler Naquin) and 8th innings (solo HR by Ivan Johnson) but it wouldn’t be enough as the Rockies pick up the 5-4 win. Tyler Mahle got the start for the Reds and threw 96 pitches across his 3.2 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks. He picked up the loss and falls to 1-4 this season. German Marquez was on the mound for the Rockies and picked up the win. Pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.

McMahon Slugs Rockies to 15-6 Win
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 15-6. Doing his part was second baseman Ryan McMahon, who hit 3 home runs, while scoring 4 and driving in 6. He ties the Rockies regular season game record for home runs with 3. The win gives Colorado a record of 13-9.

Garrett Hampson, the Colorado center fielder, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 8-5, Rockies. For the game, Hampson was 1 for 4 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs. “I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse,” said McMahon. “Believe me, it’s much easier after a win.”

Reds rookie Hunter Greene looked like he may have finally been in a spot to pick up his first career win. He’d pitch 5.0 innings and allow 5 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He’d leave the game with a 5-4 lead. Clay Holmes would come in from the pen and proceed to give up 3 runs on 2 hits in his 1/3 of an inning pitched. He’d be credited with the loss. Antonio Senzatela was on the mound for the Rockies and pitched 4.1 innings while giving up 5 runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts.

Kyle Farmer led the Reds, going 1 for 3 with a home run in the 4th inning. Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas would be the only two Reds not to muster a hit.

The Reds have tomorrow off before heading to Milwaukee to take on the division-leading Brewers (14-10)
