Reds Recap: Reds @ Twins 6/21&6/22

Next up on the Reds schedule is a quick 2 game series visiting the Minnesota Twins.

June 21st – It was all action for the first 4 innings, starting with the Reds jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Mike Moustakas would hit a 2 RBI single to center to score both Rosado and Strange-Gordon. The Brewers would add one of their own in the bottom half with a solo shot by Nelson Cruz.

The Reds would add another 2 in the next half inning thanks in part to a solo homer by rookie Francesco Rosado. The Twins would add another of their own in the bottom half to make the score 4-2. The Reds would add 3 more in the top of the 3rd with a 3 run home run by Tyler Naquin before the Brewers added 3 of their own in the bottom of the 4th when Nelson Cruz would hit his own 3 run home run.

Both teams would go scoreless the rest of the way and the Reds would pick up the win 7-5. Reds rookie Hunter Greene would pick up the win in relief. He’d pitch 2.2 hitless innings. Devin Smeltzer would take the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 7 runs on 11 hits.


June 22nd – The Cincinnati Reds would take the two game series from the Minnesota Twins, this time with less scoring. Both teams would stay scoreless until the 5th inning, when the Twins would finally break the stalemate and take the 1-0 lead. It’d take until the 8th inning for the Reds to finally get one of their own across the board, when Mike Moustakas would hit a RBI single to left to score Jesse Winker. The Reds would add another run in the top of the 8th with rookie first baseman Andrew Vaughn hitting a solo home run to right. He’d finish the game 2 for 4 with the HR and RBI.

Lucas Sims picks up the win in relief, pitching 1.2 hitless innings. Hansel Robles takes the loss, giving up 1 run on 1 hit in his 2 innings pitched.
