It was all Kent State in the second round of the MAC Conference tournament. Miami led only once, on the first possession of the game to take the 2-0 lead. After that, it was all Kent State as they led by 22 at one point before picking up the 18-point 88-70 win.

Sophomore center Jack Brown led all Golden Flashes in the first half with 15 points off the bench. Brown went 7-of-9 from the field and 1-of-2 from the free throw line while blocking two shots and having two assists. Senior guard Kurtis McCrary led all starters with nine points on 3-of-8 shooting while going 2-of-7 from beyond the arc. McCrary grabbed two rebounds with two assists.

Junior guard Victor Harper led the RedHawks with nine points on 4-of-7 shooting. Sophomore guard Leo Matthews and senior guard Jeff Evans both chipped in with five points.

The second half went much the same way for both teams. Kent State finished the game shooting 55% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc compared to 48% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc for Miami.

Jack Brown led Kent State finishing the game with a season-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Brown also grabbed two rebounds with two blocks. Senior guard Kurtis McCrary led the starters with 19 points on 5-of-13 shooting and 4-of-12 from beyond the arc. McCrary also grabbed six rebounds while dishing out six assists. Sophomore guard Jimmie Okotie scored 17 points and three assists while going 4-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Junior guard Victor Harper and senior center Flye Greenwalt led the RedHawks with 13 points each. Greenwalt also grabbed eight rebounds with three assists. Junior guard Kyle Covert was the only other RedHawk to end with double-digit points, as he scored 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting while going 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Covert also dished out five assists.


It was the #2 seed and the #3 seed meeting up for game two of the MAC Conference Tournament semi-final.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair that saw the teams tied 38-38 once the first 20 minutes were up. Sophomore guard Javon Harper scored 12 points with three rebounds to lead the Broncos in the first half. Junior center Mike Davis led the bench, scoring six points on 3-of-5 from the field with two assists.

Sophomore center Jack Brown led the Golden Flashes, scoring nine points off the bench in the first half. Brown went 4-of-5 from the field with two rebounds. Senior forward Tom Moss led the starters, scoring eight points with five rebounds and two blocks in his 13 minutes of action.

The Golden Flashes were a horrendous 7% from beyond the arc, going 1-of-13, compared to 42% for Western Michigan. The Broncos went 56% from the field compared to 43% for the Golden Flashes.

The second half wasn’t as good for Kent State as they still jacked up three after three and only made two more in the second half to finish at 14% or 3-of-21 while shooting 42% from the field. Western Michigan shot 51% from the field and 35% from beyond arc.

The Broncos had four players finish in double-digit points, Harper led the way with 16 points on 7-of-17 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds. Davis added nine points off the bench to finish with 15 points in his 21 minutes while grabbing two rebounds with three assists. Senior guard Anthony Fischer scored 14 points with five assists and junior forward Darius Stewart scored 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds.

Moss was the only Kent State player to finish the game with double-digit points, as he scored 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting while going 0-for-3 from beyond that arc. Moss also grabbed seven rebounds. Senior center Adam Robinson and Brown finished the game with nine points each. They both also finished with six rebounds.


The Ball State Cardinals beat the Western Michigan Broncos 72-69 to pick up the MAC Conference Championship. With the win the Cardinals will face Alcorn State in the play-in game.

With the loss in the tournament Kent State, missed the NCAA tournament and instead was invited to the NIT. The Golden Flashes will be a #1 seed in the Midwest Region. They will play #8 seed Florida Gulf Coast in the first round.
