The Kent State Golden Flashes opened the post-Christmas schedule by opening MAC Conference play by hosting the Miami (OH) Redhawks.

Miami started the game on a 6-0 run but Kent State would close out the first half with a 16-point lead, 44-28. Miami came back in the second half to outscore the Golden Flashes 36-32 but due to the hole they dug themselves in the first half, Kent State was able to hold on for a 12-point 76-64 win.

Every starter but Senior center Adam Robinson would end the game with double-digit points. Robinson ended the game with five points and six rebounds. Senior guard Kurtis McCray led the Golden Flashes with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting. McCray also went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Senior forward Renardo Evans and Sophomore guard Jimmie Okotie both scored 10 points. Senior guard Brian Dixon led the Kent State bench with nine points in his 14 minutes of action.

Junior guard Victor Harper led the Miami Redhawks with 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting while going 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Junior guard Kyle Covert would attempt 13 three-pointers while missing everyone. He’d shoot 3-of-20 from the field.


Kent State came into tonight’s game with a three-game win streak, while the visiting Buffalo Bulls came in with a one-game losing streak.

At the half, it was still a close game with Kent State heading into the locker room with a 4-point lead, 39-35. Tom Moss, Renardo Evans, and Adam Robinson all finished the first half with a +10. While the Bulls would feature four of their five starters in minus double digits. Chris Rencher was the only Bull in positive plus/minus, at +1.

The second half would be all Kent State, as they’d outscore Buffalo 56-34 to pick up the 95-69 win. Four of the five starters for the Golden Flashes ended the game with double-digit points. Senior center Adam Robinson led the way for Kent State, scoring 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while grabbing seven rebounds. Freshman guard Anthony Reid matched his season-high nine points coming off the bench while going a perfect 3-of-3 from the field and 1-for-1 from the free throw line.

For Buffalo Senior guard Jarvis Wooley led the way, scoring 16 points on 5-of-15 shooting while going 1-of-5 from beyond the arc. Senior starting forward Chris Montgomery grabbed seven rebounds while scoring 10 points. Sophomore guard Jamar Flippen led the Bulls off the bench, the Red Hook NY native scored eight points on 3-of-7 shooting.


Next week the Golden Flashes head on the round to face two ins state rivals, starting first with the Toledo Rockets on January 2nd before traveling to Athens Ohio to take on the Ohio Bobcats.
