CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Reds opened up the week with a three-game series hosting the St Louis Cardinals before ending the week 3 game home stand vs the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Cincinnati Reds got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the opening inning. After a single and then a stolen base for Andrew Vaughn, Nicholas Castellanos hit a single to score Vaughn to give the Reds the 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, the Cardinals would get that run back plus add two more. After back-to-back singles, first by the pitcher John Means and then Chris Taylor. Harrison Bader would bunt to load the bases. Reds pitcher Jesus Luzardo proceeded to walk the next two batters. First Nolan Arenado tied the game 1-1 and then Paul Goldschmidt to give the Cards the 2-1 lead. Robinson Chirinos would hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor to give the Cardinals the 3-1 lead.

The Cardinals added two more in the top of the fourth when Chris Taylor homered to center to give St Louis the 5-1 lead. The Reds got one run back in the bottom half o the fourth inning when a homer run of their own. This one from Nicholas Castellanos.

It’d stay that way until the top of the eighth inning when the Cardinals would score eight runs across the final two innings to take home the 13-2 win.

John Means got the start for the Cardinals and pitched a solid 6.0 innings while allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. Means moves to 2-0 on the season. Jesus Luzardo started for the Reds, lasting 5.0 innings while allowing 5 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Luzardo moves to 0-2 on the season.


CINCINNATI, Ohio – It was a pitcher’s dual tonight inside Great American Ballpark as neither team would score a run until the sixth inning. The Cardinals scored first as right fielder Dylan Carlson grounded to center to score Paul Goldschmidt. The Cardinals added another run in the top of the seventh to take the 2-0 lead on a Chris Taylor double to center to score Robinson Chirinos.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Reds got their solo run as Mike Moustakas led off the inning with a home run to right. Jack Flaherty picked up the win for the Cardinals. He pitched 7.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. He moves to 2-0 on the season. Luis Castillo was on the mound for Cincinnati and pitched 6.0 innings while allowing 1 run on 7 hits with 8 strikeouts. However, he’d pick up the loss and move to 0-1 on the season.


CINCINNATI, Ohio – The St. Louis Cardinals jumped out to the 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chris Taylor led the game off with a single to right. Two batters later Nolan Arenado doubled to center to score Taylor. Paul Goldschmidt would triple to left to score Arenado. Paul DeJong hit a sacrifice fly to score Goldschmidt to give the Cards the 3-0 lead before the first inning was over.

The Cardinals made it 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Paul DeJong grounded to right to score Goldschmidt. It was the second RBI of the game for DeJong and his 11th of the season.

Cincinnati finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the same inning. With one out, left fielder Francesco Rosado grounded to right for a single. Mike Moustakas followed that up with a 2 run home run to right field. It was home run number four on the year for Moustakas and his 12th RBI of the season.

It stayed 4-2 until the bottom of the ninth when the Reds decided to make things dramatic. Tyler Naquin would pinch hit and in the process hit his first home run of the season. This one to right. Dee Stange-Gordon grounded out for the first out of the inning. The next batter, Rosado tied the game at 4-4 with a 413-foot home run to right. Home run number two on the year for Rosado.

In the 10th inning, the Reds would pick up the walk-off win. With Jake Fraley starting the extra frame on second base, the leadoff batter Jonathan India would draw a while while the next batter Jesse Winker reached base on a throwing error. Fraley would score from second on that error to give the Reds the win.

Ryan Yarbrough was on the mound to start for Cincinnati and pitched 5.1 innings while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. Miles Mikolas started for the Cardinals and pitched 7.0 innings while allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with 9 strikeouts. But the game would come down to the bullpens as Cam Bedrosian picked up the win in relief. Pitching 1.0 innings and allowing just 1 hit. Giovanny Gallegos picked up the blown save and Andrew Miller picked up the loss, pitching 0.2 innings while allowing 1 run and 1 walk.

With the win, the Reds keep the Cardinals from sweeping the three-game series.


CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Milwaukee Brewers headed to Great American Ballpark to start a three-game series vs the hometown Reds. As has been the norm so far this season, the Reds opponents got out to the early lead.

In the top of the first inning, Keston Hiura grounded to left for an RBI single to score Christian Yelich to give the Brewers the 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth inning. Jesse Winker led the inning off by drawing a walk before Jake Fraley tripled to left to score him. It was RBI number four on the season for Fraley as the Reds tied it 1-1.

Both teams swapped runs in the sixth inning. Daniel Vogelbach grounded to left for a single that scored Javier Báez to give Milwaukee the 2-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Mike Moustakas homed to right to tie the game again at 2-2.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Moustakas singled to center to score Rivas, to give Cincinnati the 3-2 lead. It was his second RBI of the game and 15th of the season.

Tyler Mahle was on the mound to start for Cincinnati and pitched 6.0 innings while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Freddy Peralta picked up the win pitching 1.0 innings while allowing 1 hit and 2 strikeouts. Amir Garrett picked up the save, his second of the season. Josh Lindblom started for the Brewers but left with a no-decision. Adam Slade took the loss from the bullpen, pitching 2.0 innings while allowing 1 run on 1 hit.


CINCINNATI, Ohio – It was a change of pace today at Great American Ballpark as the Cincinnati Reds actually got out to the early lead. In the bottom of the first inning as Francesco Rosado led off the inning with a double to center before Andrew Vaughn would score him with an RBI single to center. Jonathan India scored Vaughn with a sacrifice fly to give the Reds the early 2-0 lead.

The Reds added two more in the bottom of the third inning. Rosado would again lead off with a double before Vaughn drew a walk. After a India walk, Leonardo Rivas hit a sacrifice fly to Christian Yelich to give the Reds the 4-0 lead.

Milwaukee would score runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Wong pinch-hit a sacrifice fly to score Jacob Nottingham. In the sixth inning, Yelich homered to center to bring the Brewers to within two at 4-2.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Brewers finally tied it at 4-4 with a Luis Urías home run to left. The Brewers would bring home the win in the top of the 10th inning when Lorenzo Cain singled to right to score Daniel Vogelbach.

Sean Manaea got the start for Cincinnati. Manaea pitched 7.0 innings while allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Eric Lauer was on the mound for the Brewers. Alec Bettinger picked up the win from the bullpen, pitching 2.0 innings while allowing just 1 hit. Josh Hader picked up his second save of the season.


CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds close out their three-game set today in Cincinnati. In the top of the first inning, the Brewers scored first. Lorenzo Cain drew a lead-off walk before stealing second. Two batters later Javier Báez grounded to left for a single that scored Cain. It was the fifth RBI of the season for Báez.

In the top of the second inning, the Brewers added 2 more to make it 3-0. Jacob Nottingham got the scoring going with a home run to center, his first of the season. A couple of batters later Cain doubled to right to score the pitcher Brandon Woodruff.

In the fourth inning, Cincinnati finally got on the board, this coming off a Mike Moustakas double to left to score Francesco Rosado to cut the lead to 3-1.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Brewers would add a home run of their own, this one a two-run shot off the bat of Christian Yelich, his third of the season. The Reds would get those two back in the bottom of the seventh again off the long ball. This time off the bat of Jake Fraley, his second of the season.

The Reds put the game away for good in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mike Moustakas led off the inning with a walk. Nicholas Castellanos would single before Jonathan India hit a 3-run home run to left to put the Reds up 6-5. It was the second home run of the season for India.

Jesus Luzardo was on the mound to start for Cincinnati and pitched 5.0 innings while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Brandon Woodruff started for Milwaukee and pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Freddy Peralta picked up the win in relief for Cincinnati, pitching a hitless inning while walking 2. Justin Topa picked up the loss for the Brewers, pitching 0.2 innings and allowing 3 runs on 2 hits with 1 walk.

Next week the Reds start the week with a three-game series vs the red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers (14-3) before being off Thursday and starting a weekend three-game series vs the division rival St. Louis Cardinals (7-8).
