The Kent State Golden Flashes headed into their opening night matchup against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 15.5 point underdogs, and they looked like it for the 1st 20 minutes Monday night. The Golden Eagles would jump out to a 51-39 halftime lead. The second half the teams would swap as Kent State would outscore Tennessee Tech 45-30 to take home the 3 point win.

Sophomore guard Jimmie Okotie was awarded player of the game and lead Kent State. He’d score 28 points in his 26 minutes, going 11 of 14 shooting, while going 6 of 7 from beyond the arc. His backcourt companion SR Kurtis McCrary chipped in 18 on 5 of 7 shooting, while going 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line. SR forward Tom Moss would grab 8 rebounds. The bench for Kent State would score only 7 points.

Freshman center Wayne Williams led all Golden Eagles, scoring 26 points on 7 of 12 shooting while going 11 of 12 from the charity stripe. Junior guard Ben Paige would add 15 points on 4 of 7 shooting.


The Kent State Golden Flashes were again underdogs heading into Thursday night’s game. This time 8 point underdogs.

Both teams would head into the locker room at the half tied at 36. The Golden Flashes were able to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 53-45 to pick up their 2nd win of the season.

Jimmie Okotie once again led the Golden Flashes, this time scoring 17 points on 6 of 14 shooting while going 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. His counterpart in the backcourt, senior Kurtis McCrary added 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting. He’d also go 4 of 9 from beyond the arc. Sophomore center Jack Brown led the Kent State bench, scoring 12 points on 6 of 10 shooting.

Senior forward Jake Curry led the Morehead State Eagles, scoring 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting. Junior forward Clint Hand added 10 points from the bench.


The Golden Flashes only play 2 games next week, they start with hosting the winless Saint Josephs Hawks here at home before heading to Murfreesboro to take on the 2-1 Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.
