Blue Jackets Weekly: December 5th-11th

The Columbus Blue Jackets (16-7-0) hosted the San Jose Sharks (15-8-2) at Nationwide Arena tonight. The San Jose Sharks would open up the scoring with Brent Burns scoring his 4th of the season on the power play, thanks to a Alexandre Texier holding penalty.

But the rest of the 1st period would be all Columbus as the Blue Jackets would score 3 straight goals to take the 3-1 lead into the 1st intermission. Jakub Voracek scored his 5th of the season, with the Jackets on the power play. Max Domi (19) and Patrik Laine (15) got the assists. Alexandre Texier would make up for his penalty by scoring his own at the 10:03 mark, with Justin Danforth (5) picking up the lone assist. Just 13 seconds later Danforth would then proceed to score his 4th of the season, Zach Werenski (11) and Alexandre Texier (1) with the assists.

The Blue Jackets would 2 more goals in the 2nd period to make it 5-1. Vladislav Gavrikov (1) and Gregory Hofmann with the goals. Before the Sharks would score the lone goal in the 3rd period to make it 5-2 when Tomas Hertl would score his 12th of the season.

Elvis Merzlikins was in net for the Blue Jackets and stopped 19 of 21 for a .905 save percentage. James Reimer got the start for the San Jose Sharks and stopped 31 of 35 for a .861 save percentage on the way to the loss.


The Columbus Blue Jackets picked up their 2nd straight win, this time at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

The Blue Jackets scored lone goal in the 1st period, with newly reactivated form IR, Emil Bemstrom scoring his 6th of the season. Alexandre Texier (2) and Justin Danforth (7) picked up the assists on the goal.

The lone goal in the 2nd period was scored by Blue Jackets captain, Boone Jenner. His 8th of the season. Gustav Nyquist picked up the lone assist, his 3rd of the season.

The Maple Leafs would make it a one goal game at the 5:55 mark of the 3rd period when William Nylander would score his 11th of the season, this one on the powerplay thanks to a Max Domi delay of game. Mitch Marner (32) and John Tavaras (8) picked up the assists but the Blue Jackets would shut them down the rest of the way and pick up the 2-1 win.

Elvis Merzlikins got the start again for the Blue Jackets and stopped 38 of 39 for a .974 save percentage, while Petr Mrazek was in net for the Maple Leafs. He stopped 20 of 22 on for a .909 save percentage.


The Anaheim Ducks break the Columbus Blue Jackets modest winning streak by putting 5 goals on the board.

It just just 71 seconds for the Blue Jackets to put the Ducks on the power play when Boone Jenner was called for high sticking. 41 seconds later the Ducks would take the 1-0 lead when Trevor Zegras scored his 9th of the season. Rickard Rakell got the lone assist, his 13th of the season.

The Blue Jackets would tie it at 1 at 8:07 of the 1st when Jakub Voracek would deflect a Max Domi shot form the point to score his 6th of the season. Max Domi (20) and Adam Boqvist (11) with the assists.

Jakub Voracek would open the scoring in the 2nd period with his 2nd of the game and 7th of the season. Adam Boqvist with his 2nd assist of the game and 12th of the season, Zach Werenski with the other assist his 12th of the season. Adam Henrique would close the scoring in the 2nd period by scoring his 9th of the season, Jakob Silverber (11) and Josh Mahura (3) with the assists to close out the 2nd period 2-2.

The 3rd period would be all Ducks as they would score 3 unanswered goals. Starting with Rickard Rakell, his 5th of the season on the power play. Followed by Cam Fowler (6) at 13:25 and Josh Manson (4) with the empty netter at 18:39 to close it out for the Ducks.

John Gibson picked up the win for the Ducks by stopping 18 of 20 with a .900 save percentage. Joonas Korpisalo was in net for the Blue Jackets and picked up the loss. He stopped 25 of 29 for a .862 save percentage. Korpisalo has went 0-3 in his last 3 starts and is 4-3 on the season.


The Columbus Blue Jackets visited the expansion Seattle Kraken and all the scoring would be done in the first 20 minutes and 18 seconds.

The Blue Jackets opened the scoring just 2:59 into the game. With the Blue Jackets on the power play due to a Adam Larsson roughing penalty, Adam Boqvist would slap one off the face off from the bottom of the circle that would sneak past Chris Driedger to put the Jackets up 1-0. It would be the 4th goal of the season for Boqvist, with assists going to Jack Roslovic (11) and Justin Danforth (8).

The Kraken would tie it with just over 2 minutes left in the period as Deveon Toews would intercept a badly placed pass by Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins and was able to put it in the back of the net. It was the 4th goal of the season for Toews.

The Blue Jackets would close out the scoring for the night, just 18 seconds into the 2nd period when Alexandre Texier would break free on a breakaway thanks to a nicely placed pass by Justin Danforth. Texier was able to deke out Chris Driedger to put the Blue Jackets up 2-1. The aforementioned Driedger stopped 24 of 26 for a .923 save percentage. Merzlikins stopped 39 of 40 for a .975 save percentage and picked up the win.

The Blue Jackets close out the week going 3-1 and will play all 3 of their games next week on the road. Starting with the Vancouver Canucks (16-8-4) on Tuesday, Edmonton Oiler (14-2-2) on Thursday and close out the week Saturday at the Calgary Flames (12-14-1)
