Reds Recap: Reds @ Marlins 8/27-8/29

It took until the 6th inning for either team to score a run and the Reds would get on the board thanks to a Leonardo Rivas triple to right to score Francisco Mejia. That was his 9th RBI of the season. The Reds would add another 2 in the top of the 8th when Rivas would again hit a RBI double to center to score Jesse Winker, his 10th RBI of the season. 2 batters later Nicholas Castellanos would hit his 48th RBI of the season on a single to right to score Rivas and give the Reds the 3-0 win.

Luis Castillo was on the mound for the Reds and pitched 6.1 scoreless innings on the way to the win. He allowed 5 hits with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. Sixto Sánchez was on the mound for the Marlins and pitched 7.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Amir Garrett would pick up his 9th save of the season pitching a hitless 9th inning.


Both teams would remain scoreless throughout the first 7 and a half innings. The Marlins would break the 0-0 tie with a Connor Scott RBI single to right.

The next two innings would see the Reds add a single run both innings to take the 2-1 win. Starting with a Francesco Rosado solo shot to center, his 14th of the season. They would add their 2nd in the top of the 10th when Dee Strange-Gordon would single to center to score Tyler Stephenson.

Ryan Yarbrough was on the mound for the Reds and pitched 7.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 5 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Sandy Alcantara was on the mound for the Marlins and pitched 7.0 innings while allowing 2 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Noe Ramirez picked up the win in relief, pitching just 1 inning with 1 strikeout and 1 walk. Amir Garrett picked up his 10th save of the season.


Most of the scoring today was done in the 4th inning with the Reds starting the scoring with a Jake Fraley RBI single to right to score Dee Strange-Gordon. Later in the inning, Tyler Naquin singled to center to score Eugenio Suârez & Jesse Winker to make it 3-0. The Marlins would score in the bottom of the half-inning with an Isan Diaz RBI single to center to score Jazz Chisholm. The Reds would add another run in the top of the 9th to make it 4-1 with a Dee Strange-Gordon single to left.

Sean Manaea was on the mound for the Reds and pitched 7.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts to pick up the win. Elieser Hernandez was on the mound for the Marlins and pitched 5.0 innings and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Cam Bedrosian was credited with the save, his 2nd of the season in relief.
