Reds Recap: Marlins @ Reds 8/19-8/22

The Reds would score all 3 of their runs in the first two innings, starting with Dee Strange-Gordon RBI single in the bottom of the 1st inning to give the Reds the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd inning Francesco Rosado would hit a 2 run home run shot to center, his 13th of the season. The Marlins would score their lone run in the top of the 5th inning when Miguel Rojas would chop a RBI single to left. The Reds bullpen would come in and shut down the Marlins the rest of the way.

Tyler Mahle got the start for the Reds and pitched 7.0 innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Trevor Rogers got the start for the Marlins and pitched 5.0 innings while allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Amir Garrett would pick up his 7th save of the season.


The Miami Marlins would score 3 in the top of the 2nd inning to take the early lead. Starting with a Jorge Alfaro (9) 2 run home run to right followed 3 batters later by a solo shot by Jon Berti (7).

The Reds would tie it in the bottom of the 3rd with their own 3 run inning thanks to a RBI double by Leonardo Rivas and a 2 run home run by Andrew Vaughn, his 10th of the season. But the next half inning the Marlins would score 2 more to break the 3 all tie. It started with a RBI double by Jorge Alfaro followed 2 batters later with a RBI double by Jon Berti.

Pablo López would get the start for the Miami Marlins and would pitch 6.1 innings and allow just 3 runs on 6 his with 1 walk to pick up the win. Jesus Luzardo would start for the Cincinnati Reds and lasted just 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk to pick up the loss. Yimi García would pick up his 28th save of the season.


The Maimi Marlins got the scoring started in the top of the 1st inning with a Brian Anderson RBI single to right. It’d stay 1-0 till the 5th inning when the Marlins would add 2 more to on a Jon Berti 2 run RBI double to score Jorge Alfaro and Miguel Rojas. They would add 3 more in the top of the 7th to make it 6-0 before the Reds would finally get on the board with 3 of their own, starting with a Francisco Mejia double to right to score Jake Fraley. Pinch hitter Tyler Stephenson would ground to right for a single to score Mejia. Next batter Dee Strange-Gordon would double to right to score Stephenson. But the Reds would get no closer as the Marlins would add another for good measure in the top of the 9th to take home the 7-3 win.

Luis Castillo was on the mound for the Reds and picked up the loss. He pitched 5.0 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. Sixto Sánchez pitched 6.1 innings on the way to the win. Allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with 3 strikeouts.


The Miami Marlins would take 3 of 4 from the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark with a 6-5 win today. The Reds would get on the scoreboard first with a 3 run shot by Jesse Winker, his 27th of the season. The Reds would add 2 more in the bottom of the 5th again from Jesse Winker and his bat, this time he would ground to center for a RBI single that would score Dee Strange-Gordon. 2 batters later Mike Moustakas would double to right to score Jake Fraley.

The rest of the game would be all Marlins as they would score 3 runs in the top of the 7th on a 3 run home run by Jazz Chisholm, his 5th of the season. They would add another 2 runs to tie it at 8 in the top of the 8th inning. It would take till the 11th inning for the Marlins to get the win with a Jazz Chisholm sacrifice fly to score Adam Duvall.

Ryan Yarbrough started on the mound for the Reds and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts. Sandy Alcantara got the start for the Marlins and lasted just 4 innings while allowing 5 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Richard Bleier got the win in relief for the Marlins, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing just 1 hit to pick up his 4th win of the season. Noe Ramirez picked up the loss in relief for the Reds, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 1 strikeout. Yimi García picked up his 29th save of the season.
