Pens outlast Sabres to pick up win

It’d take just 2:02 for the Pittsburgh Penguins to get on the board first with Malkin netting his 7th of the season, Lafferty with the assist. That would be the only scoring for the first 20.

The Pens would take the 2-0 lead 11:30 into the 2nd with Pettersson scoring his first of the season, Blueger with the assist. The Sabres would make it a 1 goal lead 3 minutes later at the 14:38 mark with Boone Jenner scoring his 3rd of the season, Dahlin and Arvidsson with the assists.

The Sabres would tie it at 2 4:58 into the third with Okposo scoring his 3rd of the season, Thompson and Dahlin on the assists. The Penguins would net the game winner at the 9 minute mark with Rust scoring his 6th of the season. Malkin and Crosby with the assists.

Craig Anderson started for Buffalo and stopped 23 of 26 on the way to a .885 save percentage for the loss. Casey DeSmith started for the Penguins and stopped 38 of 40 on the way to the win.


It takes a shootout for Flames to get past Sabres

Olofsson would put the Sabres on the scoreboard first just 2:50 into the 1st period with Olofsson getting his 5th of the season, Hinostroza and Voracek with the assists. The Buffalo Sabres would take the 2-0 lead 14:50 into the 2nd period with Cozens scoring his 2nd of the season, Jenner and Butcher with the assists.

But the 3rd period was all Calgary. They would score 3 and take the 3-2 lead by 14:05 of the period. Gaudrea started the scoring for the Flames with his 10th of the season, Lindholm and Tkachuk with the assists. Monahan scored his 5th at the 6:02 mark, Valimaki and Mangiapane with assists. Stone would score the 3rd of the Flames with his 1st of the season. The Sabres were able to tie it at 3 at 19:06 of the 3rd with Girgensons scoring his 4th of the season, Cozens and Jokihariu with the assists. Tkachuk would score in the shootout to give the Flames the 4-3 win.

Craig Anderson started for the Sabres and stopped 24 of 27 with a .889 save percetage. He left late in the 3rd period after being ran into. UPL came in in relief and stopped all 6 shots he faced. Jacob Markstrom started for the Flames and stopped 34 of 37 for a .919 save percentage.
